Frosted and Not Frosted!

We had a slight frost last night, I registered 31 degrees, but it didn't harm this beautiful little flower. I will find out the name - it's a type of tulip I am sure, one of the first to bloom in the spring. Not over 6-inches high!

One of the few tulips I have blossomed out in it finest today!! So pretty.

And a repeat of an earlier picture - the first is the way the crab apple looked yesterday. . .
And this is today's picture following enough frost to make it and me sad.

It wouldn't be right if I didn't occasionally put a picture of our best friend in here. I love him even more than rocks!!

We have had Ezekiel for a little over two years now, he was born Dec. 26, 2008. He is a good dog, very devoted to us and very smart. Or at least we think so!

Spring! Spring!! It's Spring!!!!!

With any luck, this tree will complete it's blooming cycle this year!!! We have lived here 5 years, and it's always been stopped at this point by a freeze. We have cold and snow moving in, but possible will stay above freezing! Hope Hope!!!!

My favorite time of the year - my favorite flower, shrub, bush, bloom! My favorite scent - the Lilac. Heaven must smell just like a Lilac. Last year was so cold, my lilacs didn't bloom, and this year my bushes are loaded!

Do You Know This Kid?!!

Yesterday while shopping, I watched my grandson go to get a drink of water. He initial reaction to this over zealous fountain of water was shock, then as he realized he could have fun with it, he continued. Before his mom could get to him, I was able to snap this picture.

For a little boy, what fun to have this fountain of water go out over the bowl, onto the floor!

Oh the sheer joy kids find in just living and learning life!

Nothing Better to do - Than Throw Rocks!!

This is not one you will see very often, this comes from Summitville, it's silver in its original form. My mother's second cousin or double cousin, or something like that, owned Summitville, started mining it for gold, but ran into silver. His name was Philip Bingle.

My dad worked at Summitville, probably in about 1925 - give or take. He worked with dynamite and said he sure found out what a dynamite headache was!

Summitville is one of the Colorado's "SuperFund" cleanup sites. That truly is a mountain that was raped.

Rock Solid Wood!

I think most would recognize this rock - petrified wood.

Fossil??

Is this a Nautilus or simply limestone with an odd shape??? I think it's a Nautilus, or some other type of shell or ammonite.

Rocks Rock!!!

I thought I would scatter some rocks throughout the blog. What a better way get rid of anxiety than to throw a few rocks!

Actually I love rocks, I have loved rocks since I can remember. I have collected at least a ton of rocks through the years, and my husband has thrown away at least a ton of rocks through the years! I have had about every kind of rock you can imagine, although I am still looking for that "diamond in the rough" or even a stinking meteorite! A meteorite can sell for about as much as diamonds!

This particular rock is Conglomerate or Breccia, a Conglomerate usually comes from the vent of a volcano or near a vent and Breccia has fragments of rocks and are usually less worn than that of a Conglomerate.

I believe some of the rocks in this is flint. Flint being almost the hardest rock, and is formed from volcanoes. Indians shaped many arrowheads out of flint - you can hit two "flints" together and get a spark for fire. I have spent many hours trying to start a fire this way - the Indians did, why couldn't I?!!

Anyway, enjoy the parade of rocks that will be thrown in here and there!

Picture Blogging

Emily and Jarred - this was taken when they were on their way to their dad's funeral. Not a happy time, but darn, they looked sharp!!

Ryan celebrates 16 years on Easter Sunday this year. His birthday was actually Monday, but since we were all up at Jenny's house, we had a little surprise birthday for him. He was trying in vain to blow out these candles!
I am never far from a beautiful sunset. This particular scene was just before the last "big" storm came in.

And for a pretty sunset, the bottom colors were like fire, with some virga coming down in front. This was taken following the "big" storm. Hopefully our last "winter" storm and please, no more wind!

Laughlin at Night

None of us are gamblers, but the $15 a night rooms were too good to pass up, and Laughlin was central to some of the other areas we wanted to see.

In Laughlin, to get from one casino to another, other than walking, the water taxi is the way to go. Laughlin is right on the Colorado River. The views at night are spectacular! Enjoy the scenes.....
