Colorado Summer

We went to Frisco this past weekend for their BBQ. We didn't have much spare time because we were judges and that pretty much took up all the time! But when we left, I shot this and think it's (what we in the family call) "a Framer"! I don't take too many that I would like to frame, but this is one I would! Think it's a really pretty picture!

Lessons on "How to be the FAVORITE Aunt!!!

Lesson #1

Aunt Beth and Uncle Mark pay Jake for "working" for them in Canon City at the BBQ! I hear tell that NO ONE sells BBQ like Jake - he gets out and barks "Get Your BBQ Here"!! And it works!!

Is CHEESED a word??!!

But in case, lets count it!

Guess What Grandma, I can't COUNT this big!!!!

Eventful Day, Cutco and Hail!

Not bad for a Monday, I had to take Jamie in for therapy on her elbow, when I returned I had my knives from Cutco. Have I told the story of these knives??

We went to a garage sale in Pueblo West, there was this knife holder full of knives, mostly "cheap" knives, but I spotted three very distinctive handles! I looked and sure enough - Cutco!! Like finding the real diamond at the flea market!! I told Tom - I AM buying those knives, $1.00 - give me a dollar! I didn't try to bargain, just give her the money and get out of there! As we were walking away, out of earshot - I tell Tom - "There are THREE CUTCO KNIVES in this"!!
Trying to maintain my excitement!!!

So I get them home, two of them had been abused, someone had tried to sharpen them themselves (never never do that to Cutco) - so I promptly sent them into Cutco, paid them their $6 for shipping, and with their LIFETIME guarantee, they either sharpen or replace forEVER!!

Sooo, I got these three knives back, took a bit over two weeks from buying them at garage sale on a Saturday, to having them back in my hand, good as new!!!

I love Cutco! They are to be treasured!

Then as we sit here, the rain gets louder, and louder, then the skies fall out! Hail, Rain, wow! Lasted maybe 10-15 minutes, but boy did it come down! My herbs, and I have SO much trouble growing herbs, are about wiped out, I opened the door to the fragrant smell of cilantro and basil. Now, will they survive? I don't know....

Almost a winter scene - everything was white! Stones were only marble size, but goodness, we had a lot of them come down!!

Now, to get on with the week!!

Another Love of Mine

Oh my, I hope someday, someone will read this and not think I was touched because of my interest and curiosity about so many things! Following are some pictures of some ancient rings, tee-pee rings, as well as fire pits, and some type of large ring, probably a community or tee-pee for the sweat lodge??

This first one is the big circle, and can only be made out with some imagination and knowing the different grass and growth patterns. Also be aware that when the power lines went through, many items were found, but these areas were left as is.
Carol stands inside one of the numerous rings, she likes being inside one of their tee-pees!

I would like to dig this up, but don't have enough knowledge to do it - so I take a picture and wonder! I know something was there. . .

Fire pit

Carol points out this ring, which is easy to make out without much imagination.

Rib-It is Growing!!

Wow, what a set-up they have now!! This tent is exactly what they needed for vending. With tables and chairs, folks can come in, and get out of the weather and have some good food! Channel 5 - KOAA TV, Pueblo, Colorado Springs shot a lot of footage of them on Friday, using many of their items, smoker, meats etc, as well as Beth and Mark, in their news Friday evening!

They placed 2nd with their Brisket at the Royal Gorge Holy Smoke BBQ this weekend, and it was well deserved. Lets see, how many time did they sell out and have to cook more??!!

Go Team Rib-It!! Frisco next week, then time off for family!

Rocks Roll Too!

Oh Judy Judy Judy - enough of the rocks okay??!!
My love of rocks brought this little nifty gift from my daughter, Beth and her husband Mark. At the Royal Gorge Holy Smoke BBQ this weekend, a gent was there selling all kinds of rocks, cut rocks, geodes, big rocks and little rocks, shined and raw. He had this and of course it caught my eye! I don't remember what he said it was, but I love the way it catches the light and every way you move it, the light is different. It almost seems to have an equator or axis. And it's beautiful. To take a picture of it I had to hold it, focus on my hand first, then shoot the rock. My camera won't automatically focus on this rock.

THANK YOU Beth!!!!

June Runoff!

It's June in Colorado, a hot June, and our runoff is in full swing! The mountains have had a good snow year, and apparently it's all melting at the same time!! Living along the Arkansas River sometimes can be interesting, even in Colorado!!

This first picture is the topper, kids in that boiling river with tubes. I haven't heard of anyone drowning, or missing, so I hope this is not their last picture!

This picture was taken in Canon City, down around the 4th Street Bridge by my daughter, Jenny. She does take good pictures!

This is the 4th Street Bridge in Canon City, taken Monday, June 7, 2010. It's been above flood stage for several days now.

I took this picture off of Highway 67, heading north out of Florence.

There is not a picture that can do justice to the way this river is running, it's angry, swollen, boiling, muddy and deep!

Ohhhh, Thank You Ryan!!

RYAN - A HUGE THANK YOU FOR HELPING US!!!

And for cutting those low flying branches off!!! Thank you so much!!!

Lets Poke Some Fun!!

A couple days ago, we had Ryan down to help us with the motorhome, with Tom's shoulder, he can't do anything, but that's another story! But as the evening wore on this particular day, Jenny, Bill and Jake showed up, then Beth and Mark came out and then Jarred came out!
Two day's prior to this, Tom and Ryan had bought a new battery and got our old scout going as described in previous blog. Well. . . they left the key on (I know: "No, Not Really!!?") so the menfolk ALL in mass - went out to work on the scout!! It was quite comical really, every male here! Even the little one! All to jump the battery!
Such a man thing - to fix it! Thank you guys for being fixers, and I am so glad women are "preventers"!! Hahaha!
